Kansas City Mental Health teams up with Tri-county mental health services to provide a wide array of support to the community. This includes behavioral health care and prevention, all the way to treatment services, including medications, medication management counseling and crisis intervention. If individuals and families find themselves in financially challenged circumstances and you do not have health insurance available to you, they offer patient assistance programs and options for fee reimbursement. They also help patients obtain medications at lower rates by sample programs through pharmaceutical distributors and other means. There is a special nurse to be assigned as a case manger to individuals who have special financial and insurance needs. Kansas City Mental Health knows your health is your priority and you can not let finances get in the way of necessary medical care and medications.
Individual and group therapy for both children and adults is contracted out to professionals in the area who specialize in the patients needs. Professionals are available in individual and group therapy in a wide variety of specialties. For those individuals who are in need of a more intensive level of therapy, Kansas City mental health offers an intensive outpatient program on a daily basis. This program includes group therapy and case management for the patient who needs more individualized attention but not necessarily hospitalization. The outpatient therapy also provides a slow and easy transition into day to day life for those recently discharged from an inpatient stay in the hospital.
If the hospital or the intensive outpatient program is not right for you or your loved one, Kansas City also offers a Day Program for seriously mentally ill adults. The Day Program is offered at different locations and run Monday thru Friday. One of the more unique operations in Kansas City is the Consumer-Run-Drop-In Center. This center is operated by mentally ill adults who are in need of a setting to build relationships and socialize. It is not a treatment center, but a safe place for them to learn and grow.
The Children’s Intensive Family Based Services focus on emotionally and mentally challenged children and their families. The goal is to try not to displace the children. They place a strong emphasis on the rehabilitation and coping skills of the child. There is a Day Treatment Program that is specifically geared to the children’s needs; focusing on therapy, recreation, and social skills. As with all the programs it becomes essential that the entire family become involved in the education, healing and recovery process.
Kansas City mental health is also able to offer a 24 hour crisis line. This is not a resource all cities offer. During business hours you may contact 816-468-0400 and ask for a crisis counselor. After business hours, contact 1-888-279-8188. Another helpful number is the contact information for National Alliance for the Mentally Ill. The local Kansas City office may be reached at 816-931-0030 or go to their website at www.kcnami.org.
